Fake drinks are better than no drinks. I'll be there soon. Save me a spot.
( it's a little out of the blue, this invitation, but nikolai doesn't mind. it takes him some concentration to get himself into the horizon but he does get there and finds his way over to jesper's.
he's heard about the crow club from jesper himself so it's kind of a treat to finally get to visit it. he pushes his way inside and looks around for jesper. )
(The Crow Club is easy to spot in the Horizon because there aren't that many dive bars with the particular Ketterdam aesthetic. Despite the fact that it's empty, as Jesper doesn't fill it with fake people, there is the faint sound of laughter and gambling, of glasses clinking and deals being done. It just fits the mood of the place.
Jesper's leaning against the bar, dressed in dark green rather than his usual lime, his subconscious going less colorful because he's secretly in a mood. He senses when Nikolai comes in and smiles, turning to put his back against the bar and wigglings his fingers in a wave, his mood picking up.)
I think it's hot, it's not like I had any opportunities to bed royals in Ketterdam.
( Who knows, it's possible there were visiting people of better bloodlines, but Jesper's a farmboy so he inherently thinks it's sexy. Speaking of though he does caress Nikolai's cheek and leans in to kiss him firmly in greeting. They've had sex, he's always affectionate with his lovers.
Afterward he pulls a bottle of good Ravkan wine off the wall and pours some for Nikolai. A taste of home. It tastes like Jesper remembers it, and he does very well, so there's something nice at least.)
I suppose I do have something to celebrate. I opened a fashion shop in Cadens. People officially give me money to clothe them. It's not gunslinging but it's something.
( Jesper is usually an expert at finding the positive end of things so he manages to do that here too.)
( jesper knew how to dress and how to dress well so why not share that knowledge with others? he grins widely, pleased to hear that jesper's doing well. )
And it is absolutely something to drink to. Pour me a big glass.
It is. Never thought I'd be a mercher though, that's the biggest surprise in this place.
(Jesper can't really be a criminal like he should be here. It's something that makes him grumpy, and that Kaz struggles with too, but the criminal underbelly is nothing like theirs here. There are no gangs that he knows of, and this place is too bright and military-based for it. Anyone who tried to make trouble would be taken care of quickly. Alas, it isn't Ketterdam, and it never will be.
Merchants are sometimes the enemy to the gangs so he didn't expect himself to like it, but he does. He's been making money since he got here, pragmatically.)
I've been selling stuff since I got here, needed to make money for me and Inej somehow, but guess this is the first time I actually like it.
(Which makes a difference! Nevermind just saying Inej's name still stings. He fills up a big glass for Nikolai and offers it to him, sipping his own, gray eyes on his pretty face.)
I might need to send you off with some money to get me a few outfits together when I see you next.
( in nocwich, of course, since jesper couldn't find his way to thorne and nikolai couldn't go to the free cities. the clothes he has aren't terrible but he knows jesper could make him look better. )
Me? Oh, nothing. Mostly trying to settle in and figure out what Thorne is. I've met a lot of people and I've been trying to get used to being able to use magic.
You can pay for the fabric, I don't charge my lovers the full price.
( The fabric is more than fair as Jesper has to get it together anyway, and that would help as he knows that Thorne doesn't give the Summoned a lot of money. Jesper's clothes are as good as any fashionista in any faction, and that he believes wholeheartedly.)
You'd look so good in a long teal coat. I can even model it after what you were wearing in my world.
( They're technically from parallel universes or anything, but he thinks the dashing privateer look will translate. He reaches over to playfully tug at Nikolai's collar, running his thumb along his neck.)
Thorne is trouble, watch out. The queen's a psychopath and they don't have any problem fucking around with Summoned.
( It's insane to him how many lovers he has to worry about in Thorne. RIP.)
But I hear the magical training is great there, so there is that. What kind of magic?
( nikolai would much rather talk about clothes and what he looks good in but it's probably more important to speak about thorne and he queen.
nikolai makes a face. )
So I've heard. About the queen, I mean. I haven't exactly had the privilege of being fucked with but I look forward to my first time.
( whenever that might be. )
Right now, it's just basic training. Myself and another Summoned have been working on it since we're both a little magically disinclined. But, we're getting there. I've managed to create something of a Horizon so I know I can do it.
( Jesper isn't about to insult Nikolai's parents but he may or may not be thinking of them. It's not like they've been particularly kind to his people. Offering the army without much of a choice otherwise, iffy, or that's how Jesper's always seen it. Not that Fjerda is better, it's much worse, considering they'd murder him on sight or get him hooked on drugs to work for them.
It's not fun to be Grisha in their world, that's why he hid it so long.)
Oh you do have a Horizon, good. Hold on let me give you the tour, take your drink.
( He did pour him a big one. Jesper pushes off the bar and the Crow Club itself is pretty self-evident. It's grimey and homey in that way that would only make sense to the Dregs. He doesn't go up to Kaz's apartment as he only seduced a man there once since Kaz wasn't there. It's not sporting now.
He opens a door to the right and gestures for Nikolai to go through. On the other end is the complete opposite of the club. It's bright day, it's colorful greens, the small log cabin looks cozy.)
The things I started to create really didn't fit the Crow aesthetic.
( nikolai doesn't know exactly what the crows aesthetic is but he likes what he sees here. it's colorful and vibrant and nikolai feels like it definitely fits jesper's personality. )
This is nice, though. I think it suits you.
( it's very homey. if you didn't know any better, you'd think this was real and not something created from one's mind. )
It's completely new, not based on anything. I like that.
( Sort of it's based on an idea of Wanda's, a log cabin sort of thing, but his looks nothing like hers. It's comfy for one person and a visitor or two, nothing grand. He was looking for a respite. He pats Nikolai on the back and tugs his arm to take him inside.
It's very bright inside and a stark contrast to the club. Perhaps it's representing two sides of Jesper himself. There is a television and more modern instruments nearby. He erased all the painting supplies now that Wylan's gone, and his flute. Jesper waves a hand toward the TV.)
I don't spend as much time in here as other people do, but it's the best way to see friends when not in Nocwich.
( That's only three days! He can't only see them then.)
That's a television up there. It's a technology device from way in the future, it makes moving pictures.
( everything about jesper's horizon intrigues him but he can't pull his attention away from that. nikolai wanders closer to the television and eyes it. )
( Jesper was shown several movies and shows from his friends, although he thinks now about one of Wanda's favorites, Malcolm in the Middle. He pulls Nikolai back so he can see the TV as it comes alive and starts playing an episode, with voice over from the main character. It seems like an average modern home with snarky commentary and jokes, although to them modern is very odd. A sitcom? Not really fitting in their setting.
The moving pictures seem very natural and colorful, which is what he loves about them. He saw some black and white options too but he prefers this style a lot more. He might not remember every joke from the show, so it's an imperfect copy, but it's good for a demonstration.)
It's like plays that they do something called record and then can share with people later on without needing to go to the theater.
( it's a simple word but there is amazement in his voice as he watches the pictures seemingly come alive. nikolai steps forward and reaches up, trying to touch. but, the pictures remain enclosed in the screen.
he blinks a few times. )
I need to put one of these in my Horizon. I want to watch a television.
If you want ideas you should go to Dean's horizon, it's like this bar but it's different from mine. They have a whole bunch of TVs in there and something called a jukebox which plays different types of music.
( Jesper is glad to be talking about it with someone else who doesn't fundamentally understand, partly because it means he can be the information sharer this time! He's spent two years learning all about future technology and loving it, wishing he was born in a space time where he could float around the universe. He wishes he could be with Shepard's crew that way. Doomed to a time where he feels like he was made to be born later. Alas.)
I can show you the ones Wanda showed me. You'll have to remember it to make the TV work, although you can make it look like anything.
( Jesper tugs on his arm to pull him over to the couch and down to sit. He focuses and puts on the screen memories he has of the Free Cities. Cadens, which Nikolai's never been able to see, and then beach times in Aquila and the art of Libertas. It's all from his own experience.)
( all right, he can do this. he created something in his horizon so he should be able to do this. he closes his eyes and focuses.
it takes a little longer than it might for some people but he does manage. eventually, the screen does reflect the castle, dour and bleak as nikolai sometimes feels that it is. )
I've never been to a palace but it lacks spirit, if this is true.
( Jesper wants to go to the castle so he can burn it down and take the people he loves from it. Fuck this place, is his general state of being. Even if it was beautiful he'd want to do the same thing. He reaches out to caress Nikolai's cheek and turn his head toward Jesper.)
I had ulterior intentions for this meet up. ( He grins at him.) You see, in the Horizon, you can have sex as many times as you want without delay.

Good, good. I was wondering if you'd be interested in meeting up in the Horizon for a little FUN.
[ Yes this is a 'you up?' conversation. ]

( well, he does like fun. )

[ooc: Sorry to spring this on you lol we don't have to write it out if you don't want to, he's just sad and wants a pretty king.]
it's totally fine, i'm down!

Welcome to the Crow Club, your highness.

Is there an occasion for the drinking or just because we can?

I've never seen anything like it. It's a live performance put into a — a tiny screen.
( very eloquent. he turns to look at jesper. )
A lot of this technology gives me a headache but I do like this.

( Jesper completely understands! He felt the exact same way when he saw this for the first time. He points at the screen.)
That's Cadens, the desert city we live in. Aquila's the beach one, Libertas is with all the art.
( Jesper runs his fingers through Nikolai's hair and kisses his cheek, pointing back at the screen again.)
Okay. I'm going to let you control the screen. Show me Thorne. Focus. You can do it.

good!!!!
( and you were making him create pictures of thorne with that knowledge in your pocket, jesper? tsk tsk.
the picture of the castle dissolves as nikolai's attention switches and he reaches up, taking jesper's hand in his. )
I think that might be worth showing me further.
