Look. All magic and similar natures are temperamental. Someone may tell you that others like water-based or something are more passive, but they're wrong. Everything can be fed. The difference comes with how explosive they can get, like fire as the most concrete example. You put in enough passion regardless how positive or negative it is and it's going to get out of control.

Darkness is the same way, but becomes exponentially worse. It feeds off negativity and empowers itself and can be addictive, and all that becomes a constant cycle that can't be broken from.
